The REEU program is an eight-week summer fellowship that educates undergraduate students in the methods of sustainable gardening as well as insect, pest, and pollinator management.

Research Objectives

  • IWU-REEU fellows will learn garden design, propagation, grafting, compost management, beekeeping basics, and insect pest/weed identification.

  • Introduce native pollinator gardens to urban gardens to enhance pollinator richness and abundance.

  • Equip students with hands-on experience in pest, pollinator, and plant surveys that enhance Integrated Pest and Pollinator Management (IPPM) in urban gardens

  • Provide outreach to the community by providing education and awareness related to pest and pollinator management.

REEU HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights of the IWU REEU:

  • Strong faculty mentoring across multiple disciplines

  • $4,200 stipend for eight weeks

  • On-campus housing and meal allowance provided

  • Extension experiences, invited speakers from industry, weekly seminars, field trip, professional development and leadership training
