The Potatoes Have Eyes
Day one started at a farm called Victory Acres: "Victory Acres provides good food and good work through Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) in North-Central Indiana." We will be helping out at the farm two days a week as part of our internship. In the morning we weeded and put on row over on the brassicas and in the afternoon we planted potatoes. If you have never planted potatoes before (which none of us interns had) you just cut up a potato and plant a chunk as a seed. However, in each chunk you have to make sure you have at least one potato eye. Working at Victory Acres is going to be an incredible learning opportunity. The people that are going to be showing us interns the ropes are great teachers and really fun to be around. We will also be sore from all the hard work and get a really solid farmers tan.
